Cold email still works in Switzerland in 2026, but the bar has risen sharply. Inbox providers are stricter, FADP enforcement is real, and Swiss buyers ignore anything that looks templated. Done correctly, cold email delivers 5-12 percent positive reply rates on well-targeted Swiss B2B lists.
The revised Swiss Data Protection Act, in force since September 2023, allows B2B cold email to corporate addresses under legitimate interest, provided the message is relevant to the recipient's professional role, easy to opt out from, and the sender's identity and purpose are clear. Personal Gmail or Hotmail addresses are off-limits for cold outreach.
Send from a secondary domain (e.g. get-yourcompany.ch) to protect your primary domain reputation. Configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC correctly. Warm up each sending mailbox for 3-4 weeks before live outreach, gradually ramping to 30-50 sends per day per mailbox. Use one mailbox per ~40 daily sends; never exceed 100 per mailbox.
Build lists from Sales Navigator exports verified through Apollo, Hunter or Dropcontact. Bounce rate above 3 percent will damage your sender reputation within days. Validate every email before send. Avoid purchased lists entirely; they are FADP-non-compliant and full of spam traps.
Three patterns work in Switzerland. The trigger-based opener references a specific event (funding, hire, regulatory change) and ties it to a problem you solve. The peer reference cites a similar Swiss company you have helped, with a specific result. The contrarian observation challenges a common assumption in their industry and offers your perspective. All three end with a low-friction CTA: a 15-minute call, a relevant case study, or a single question.
Three to five touches over 14-21 days is the optimal range for Swiss B2B. More than five reduces reply rate and increases unsubscribes. Personalise touches one and three at minimum; touches two, four and five can be lighter but should still feel human.
Track positive reply rate, meeting booked rate and pipeline value rather than open rate (which is increasingly unreliable). Healthy benchmarks for Swiss B2B: 5-12 percent positive reply, 30-50 percent of positive replies converting to meetings.
